Do you want your ordered gifts to arrive before Christmas? Better order by Green Monday.
Last-minute Clicks
Originally named by online shopping giant Shopping.com (a subsidiary of eBay) in 2007, Green Monday is marketed as the last chance to order gifts online with full confidence they will arrive in time for the Christmas holiday.
Despite its name, there seems to be no particular environmental aspect to the promotion, and the Green of the title appears to refer to money.
While not as popular in the US as Black Friday or Cyber Monday for shopping, Green Monday events often drive significant sales, so the date ranks among the country’s highest-volume shopping days of the year.
Rapid Growth
Since its start in 2007, Green Monday has become more popular with online merchants.
At first, the date was marketed as a second Cyber Monday, but in the early 2010s, major retailers like Walmart and Levi´s started promoting special Green Monday sales. In the following years, e-commerce giants like Amazon and Best Buy followed suit.
More recently, the rise of Green Monday´s popularity may have slowed a bit, as supply chain issues from the pandemic and the impact of inflation may have altered consumer shopping habits.
