LIVE Stream: Annular Solar Eclipse October 2, 2024

Watch a “ring of fire” around the Moon

The New Moon covers the Sun’s center, leaving its outer edges to form the characteristic annulus or “ring of fire” during this annular solar eclipse across Rapa Nui (Easter Island) and the southern tip of South America.

Lucky enough to see the eclipse from your location? Remember to NEVER look at the Sun without proper eye protection.

Even though the Sun is still about 6% eclipsed by the Moon, the eclipse ends as the Sun sets at the Pico dos Dias Observatory, Brazil.

But, as the Sun goes down, the stars become more visible! Check out our Night Sky Map to see what the starry sky looks like at your location.

End of Partial Eclipse on Easter Island

We have reached the fourth and final contact stage of this annular eclipse on Easter Island, Pacific Ocean.

The Moon has left the Sun’s disk, and the last stage of the eclipse is over on Rapa Nui.
